Stelvio National Park and the Swiss National ParkThe Stelvio National Park will impress you with its large variety of plants and animals. This wonderful species-rich alpine paradise is characterised by the altitude difference between the valley base and the highest glacier. Here you will find unaccessible areas and thick conifer forests, wide mountain lakes, impassable rock summits, and endless glaciers. The diverse flora offers perfect conditions for a rich fauna. The most important hoofed animals of the Alps call this their home: deer, chamois and ibex. With a bit of luck and patience you might get a glimpse of a golden eagle, a bearded vulture or a wood grouse.
With a size of 169 km², the Swiss National Park is the largest nature reserve is Switzerland. The unique alpine region ranges in altitude between 1400 and 3200 m above sea level.
From June to August you can watch the multi-coloured and wide ranging plants. In July and August the warm sun melts the last remaining snow - the perfect tie for a high altitude hike.
