Historical InformationIn the 17th Century Livigno became legally and economically autonomous awarded by the Graubündener ruler of Valtellina. In 1805, because of its then hardly reachable location in winter, was declared a duty free zone. The Austro-Hungarian Empire recognised this advantage in 1818. Livigno's status was confirmed by Italy in 1910 and then by the European Community in 1960.
